I go walking
Mid day when the sun is warm on my skin and the light bounces off in every direction.
And I pin little nodes of frequency into my ears and I let the music carry me away.
Symphonies cascading through my head and down to my heart as I stop for a moment, resting beside the canal. And I glance, smile at the bird who has perched himself near me. He turns his head too. And I think about God giving the right to humans to rule over this planet,
yet here is one who soars above it all.
What music might he hear from the earth and wind as he glides over air currents like waves.
I walk on
Noticing the trees and the bushes. The shadows the palm fronds make on the cement as my feet interrupt the cadence of the wind.
And the strings in the symphony that plays in my ears have reached the part where they sound like they’re screaming
And my heart remembers the feeling
Still
I keep my head high
but lower my intense eyes with a simple smile when passing a person.
hibiscus seem more welcoming.
Yet I notice the back of a man’s buzzed head.
How a mother somewhere must have run her hand over the top of it once, admiring each hair coming in.
And I look to another sitting slumped over, awaiting the bus or perhaps just sitting there for the night.
And I smile and wish I had more to say.
And sometimes, in the simple magic of it all,
Someone looks back at me with a similar gratitude- for all the blessings and pains of life
and smiles back. : )
