Melody of Sadness

My favorite songs to listen to when I’m sad…

Atlas -  Touch - sleeping at last

Winter - Tori Amos

Cold - Aqualung & Lucy Schwartz

When the party’s over - Billie Eilish

To Build a Home- Patrick Watson

These are songs I come back to over and over…

like a home for the solace of my heart.

When deep grief has revealed itself to one’s heart, even after healing, there’s always a place inside where it can still be touched. Resonated with…

Remembered with its cold cradling.

And the music

remembers too

and it moves over each painful memory stored in the body like salt once sprinkled in a wound - vibrating its violin & methodic melody. Charming the snake.

And it becomes not something to escape from but to soak in.

Its soothing cries something to be heard and enveloped by,

to let fall on the body like the hot drops of a shower, running over every part.

Sticky dissolution of brokenness somehow

melts

down into fresh, blown glass, streaked with spirit like smokey rainbows trapped.

Caterpillar within the chrysalis.

So I listen, in the bed sadness made for me, until wings begin to gently push against another layer I placed because I thought

it protected me…
